Find Your Calling -
What is my calling?
In 2005, I was home sick and watching a performance on PBS. I don't recall who or what I was watching, but I do remember that the singer had an unbelievably beautiful voice. I've never been able to sing or dance. I feel like I can dance until I actually do it and I feel like my body isn't quite doing what I had in mind. Some people are naturally born with talents such as having a beautiful voice to sing. I've never been jealous or envious of people who found their calling, but I just really wanted to figure out what my gift was.
Asked to be guided to my calling...
While watching the show, I broke down into tears and fell on my knees, bowing to the ground and cried a wailing type of cry that I know Heaven heard. I cried and asked to be guided to my calling. What I did just felt instinctual, primal and out of pure desperation. I dried up my tears and went about my day.
A month later, I applied for a guest teaching position in my area. I started working and I realized that I loved teaching so much that I could do it for free. I was passionate about it. It didn't feel like a job, it was my calling. My prayer was answered and they showed me my calling, what I'm here on earth to do. I graduated and I'm a certified biology teacher. I've always had an innate knowing of things. I was born a teacher and I just never recognized what was so obvious.
My husband has a natural gift for music and cooking. His brain can hear music and he knows how to reproduce what he heard without looking at a music sheet. He can recreate menu items just by tasting it. He doesn't like to follow recipes at all, he just goes by taste. Everyone always says that he should own his own restaurant. His daughter is musically inclined also.
How to find your calling: (what worked for me)
Do the gut-wrenching, fall to your knees, wailing cry, but be genuine and come from your soul. Listen for answers and let yourself be guided. Live your days by following what your heart and soul say to do. If you let your brain dictate too much, you might miss the opportunity that you were being guided to. For example, maybe you were invited out with a friend but declined because your body is too tired, but inside you feel like you should have gone. That could have been a missed opportunity. I believe we're given countless opportunities, but it's still up to us to recognize them. They say, "Let go and Let God." From experience, this is so very true.
